Statement from the Chief Executive of BITC on the Spring Budget

Responding to the Spring Budget delivered by the Chancellor of the Exchequer today, Mary Macleod, Chief Executive of Business in the Community (BITC), said:

“There are many things to unpack from today’s budget, but the packages announced on childcare, policies to help more people stay in work and further commitment to levelling up are welcomed.

“With over one million jobs available in the UK, the Government is right to focus on policies that remove barriers to work. Access and the cost of childcare have been a huge barrier to work for many parents, and I hope the new package announced today will allow more working parents, particularly women to stay in work.

“As the cost-of-living crisis continues, confirmation that the energy support scheme will be extended is extremely welcomed. This will continue to support those families who are struggling to make ends meet at this time. Communities across the UK are also in desperate need of support. The Chancellor’s further commitment to levelling up in areas such as Rochdale is very much needed. Giving people access to the same opportunities, regardless of where they live, will help to close the inequalities gap, and ensure that no community is left behind.”
