Statement on the riots across the UK
Mary Macleod, Chief Executive of Business in the Community, said:
“The scenes from the weekend have brought fear, distress and profound dismay to the majority of people across the UK. The destruction of property and the abhorrent displays of racism witnessed, have no place in our society. It is only right that those responsible for these riots face the full consequences of the law.
“The damage inflicted on years of effort to build strong communities and the attacks on individuals based on their skin colour or religion, goes against everything we stand for at Business in the Community. We stand in solidarity with those across the UK who have been victims of these vile acts. We are committed to working closely with communities throughout the UK to rebuild and emerge stronger together.
“We will continue our important work to transform Places and lift people out of poverty. We know that during times of uncertainty, business leaders can be an important voice for hope, and we will use our network to be that voice during these times.”
