Jane Durkin is Assistant Director for Corporate Social Responsibility at the General Medical Council (GMC). Jane took this role in May 2020 to lead the GMC’s work to enhance its approach to responsible business.
Jane has been with the GMC since 2008 and was previously responsible for its registration functions. These include the GMC’s contact centre and teams handling more than 20,000 applications for registration each year. She was also responsible for the GMC’s examinations for overseas doctors seeking registration in the UK. The tests make sure doctors who qualify overseas have the right knowledge and skills to practise medicine in the UK. Exams consist of a knowledge test held in 13 countries around the world and a comprehensive skills test at the GMC’s specialist test centre in Manchester.
Prior to joining the GMC, Jane was Assistant Information Commissioner at the Information Commissioner’s Office in Wilmslow.
Jane is delighted to be on Business in the Community’s North West Advisory Board. She is looking forward to progressing an ambitious agenda for the region and is enthusiastic about combining her passion for responsible business and the North West.
