Royal Founding Patron HM The King - Business in the Community

Royal Founding Patron HM The King

HM King Charles III has supported Business in the Community (BITC) for over 40 years, working with us to make a difference to 10 million people.

As Prince of Wales, and now HM The King, our Royal Founding Patron has championed and supported business involvement in communities to create a fairer, greener world. He has led some 600 engagements for BITC, and his leadership, commitment and personal beliefs have driven the movement of responsible business in the UK. Always, driving the agenda forward, as Prince of Wales, HM’s work covered issues as broad as diversity and inclusive representation within and for communities, to sustainability and climate change. To supporting community entrepreneurs, local purchasing, farming and the countryside, and the secondments of ‘business connectors’ to help bring business support and expertise to problems affecting local people.

Over the past 42 years, BITC has worked with its members across the UK to bring business resource, investment and expertise to this wide range of issues. This in turn has helped businesses to become more responsible and more connected to their customers, employees and wider stakeholders.

A day in Spitalfields

HRH The Prince of Wales, President of BITC, returned to Spitalfields in February 1989 to see training schemes which are bridging the gap between City of London employers and the unemployed in the East End of London. The Prince’s tour ended at the Lloyd’s Building in the City.

Seeing is Believing starts

Initiated by HRH The Prince of Wales, BITC takes senior business leaders into inner city housing estates, schools and community projects to see the challenges facing the UK and demonstrate simple ways that companies can get involved to benefit both business and the community.

BITC 40th anniversary

His Majesty the King joined BITC Central Hall Westminster in 2022 to mark the 40th anniversary of the organisation and to meet with business leaders who have been driving the responsible business agenda since 1982.
