BITC statement on The King’s Speech
Commenting on The King’s Speech today, Mary Macleod, Chief Executive of Business in the Community, said:
“Today’s King’s Speech has provided the clarity and direction that business leaders have been seeking. The legislation to enhance employment rights, devolution, mental health support and tackle climate change are positive steps, but it is crucial that the government collaborates closely with businesses to ensure all new laws facilitate, rather than hinder, the creation of a fairer and greener society.
“Business leaders have consistently called for action on economic stability, net zero targets, access to skilled talent, and social mobility. While The King’s Speech addresses some of these areas, a collaborative approach is essential for developing innovative solutions to these challenges.
“Change is within our reach. By leveraging the expertise and resources of business leaders, we can achieve transformative results. Legislation plays a role, but true progress will come from partnership. Together, we can build a better, fairer, and greener country, driving inclusive economic growth.”
BITC is working with businesses in every region of the UK to transform lives, to create a country where:

- Every employer is investing in skills that are needed for today and for the future, creating workplaces where everyone has the opportunity to grow and reach their full potential, regardless of background.
- Every community has a shared sense of pride and hope, with support to tackle the difficult challenges and where there is a strong collective vision of a fairer, greener and better tomorrow.
