Statement from Business in the Community on the budget
Mary Macleod, Chief Executive of Business in the Community (BITC), said:
“I welcome the Chancellor’s announcement on further devolution and funding to support those communities that need it most. Increasing the number of places that will benefit from investment through the long-term plan for towns is a welcome step to regenerate even more communities.
“Funding is crucial to help address some of the key challenges facing the UK, but spending it effectively is essential. I want to call on the Government to work with us at BITC as we convene business leaders and community organisations to drive impactful change in these local communities.
“Collaboration has proven successful in many areas. For example, in Blackpool, through joint efforts, the latest success of this work led to a £90 million housing investment from the government, showcasing the power of working together. We want to replicate this model to transform even more lives and help communities to thrive in every region and nation. The only way we can do that is to work together to lift the country up, delivering social value and economic benefits to those who need it most.”
